With dual planes, one for the sky and one for the ground, the photo is mapped in 2 dimensions giving you a 30-degree camera movement in all directions. Get close to your characters/models while preserving high-resolution ground and use camera DOF (Depth Of Field) that is applied progressively (just like in the real world) without blurring the ground near your characters/objects.
