Rhododendrons are synonymous with early summer color in many places around the globe. In England and North America, the ponticum variety's were planted as game cover and have, now, covered vast swathes of the landscape in their dense foliage, and in late spring and early summer, are covered in purple and pink shades of flowers. They have also been cultivated and prized in gardens for many centuries and are a great backdrop to many kinds of scenes.
